Sport Psychology Topics:

  1. Psychological Skills Training (for golf).
  2. Sport Psychology Consulting.

Paper Assignment:

There will be no paper for this film!!

Instead, in line with the Smith College’s academic priority of developing students oral communication skills, we will be replacing the paper by having everyone do a short “Siskel & Ebert” Film Review.

Who are Siskel and Ebert – if you don’t know check out this link.

You can watch them reviewing a top sport film below:

What exactly do I have to do?

The answer is absolutely nothing! At the start of Monday’s class you will be randomly paired with another student and assigned one of the questions from Julia’s “Tin Cup” viewing guide. You will both then go to the front of the class, and be videotaped while you “review the film”, that is conduct an intelligent discussion on the question, offering your viewpoint on the question, agreeing or disagreeing with your partner, using “evidence” from the film to help answer the question and support your point of view.

The results of your “Siskel & Ebert” film review will be posted to YouTube, and from there to our class blog. The only preparation you will need to do is to read the chapter on psychological skills training in the text (Chapter 11), a few pages on Flow (Ch. 6, pp. 147-152 in 4th Ed.) and a few pages on the Inverted-U Model of Arousal (Ch. 4, pp. 86-88, 4th Ed.).

This will give us a much needed break from writing and grading papers using a sound pedagogical rationale (development of oral communication skills).
